Pipe-in-Pipe Design Experience
Since its inception, KW Ltd has worked on the design of pipe-in -pipe systems. The range of projects has included design assurance, support to operators, conceptual and detailed design. KW has analysed and designed numerous pipe in pipe systems, from bonded systems to sliding reeled systems. Detailed Design Projects have included HPHT and deep water pipeline systems.

KW can demonstrate a first class technical capability coupled with an unrivalled track record in the field of detailed design and analysis of pipe in pipe systems. We believe that this background ensures KW provides the service and support required for the successful completion of pipe in pipe projects.

Technical Capability
Detailed analysis of pipe-in-pipe systems, including:
• Determination of flowline material properties.
• Detailed design of end and midline bulkheads.
• Evaluation of requirements for water stops and optimised spacing.
• Detailed design of field joints.
• Thermal analysis for pipe-in-pipe, bulkheads and field joints.
• Analysis of sliding pipe systems and effect of reeling residual strains on in-place behaviour.

Limit State and Strain Based Analysis and Assessment, including:
• Preparation of assessment limits for the required forms of strength limit states.
• The use of finite element modelling for strain based analysis.
• The preparation of limiting strain levels relating to the flowline and outer pipe materials.
• Evaluation of strain limits for fracture and application of ECA methodologies.
• Analysis of cyclic loading conditions and fatigue limit states.

In addition, upheaval buckling/OOS and lateral buckling solutions have been developed as part of detailed design.
